So, yes there is a relationship, which is not motivating especially when you are on the journey of weight loss. At least, we found with our clients that during this phase, they usually gain up to a few pounds (around 1 to 2 kilos). They feel being bloated. Their clothes feel too tight for a week or two each month. Sad, isn’t it? This symptom is experienced by most menstruating women, whether or not troubled by PMS. However, this extra weight is shed as soon as menstrual bleeding begins.
So, how the weight loss number looks during PMS?
Say you have lost 3 kilos in 3 weeks, and then PMS phase comes, and the next day or two you will find that you have gained 1.5 kilos. And it takes usually a week to become normal. So, after 4 weeks, you may notice that you have lost 2.5 kilos in 4 weeks. And honestly, it is still really good. However, it can be highly demotivating…
Because, during this phase, food cravings increase, brain asks for more sugar e.g. chocolate etc. Now if you surrender to these extra cravings, it will contribute to further weight gain. So, depending on your extra cravings’ intake, the above example, may appear like this:
Say you have lost 3 kilos in 3 weeks, and then PMS phase comes, and after surrendering to extra cravings, the next day or two you will find that you have gained 2.5 kilos. And, as it takes usually a week to become normal. So, after 4 weeks, you may notice that you have lost only 0.5 kilos in 4 weeks.
So, it is highly important that you do not surrender to these extra cravings during your weight loss journey. As they say, where there is a will, there is a way.
